A Quickie Survival Guide to the Full Moon/Eclipse in Capricorn

A Quickie Survival Guide to the Full Moon/Eclipse in Capricorn

by Monika Carless | Jul 16, 2019 | Musings

*The partial lunar eclipse, the last lunar eclipse of 2019, will be visible from Australia, Africa, South America, most of Europe, and Asia, and the very eastern and southern parts of North America on July 16 -17, 2019. We are on a constant journey of falling apart...

2 Dark Moons, 2 Eclipses, Sun in Leo Plus “You Know Who” in Retrograde.

When’s the new moon? There’s an eclipse? What sun sign are we in? Is it Mercury retrograde again? These are the questions I receive daily from my tribe. It’s so much easier to follow the natural cycles of the cosmos when we don’t have to search for each bit of...

June 3rd Dark Moon in Gemini. A Lilith Ritual and More!

“Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.” ~ Mark Twain ~ I’m kind of obsessed with the dark moon. Of all the moon’s phases, I look forward to ritual with this one the most. If you’re not familiar with the dark moon, here are a...

Full Moon in Scorpio. Embrace the Sensual, Sexual, Rawness of Life.

by Monika Carless | May 16, 2019 | Musings

“Why do you love the moon so?” she asked, peering at me over her glasses, sipping coffee from one of those mugs that allow you to hug them with your whole hands. “The moon connects me to the gentle flow of life, to the remembrance of my own cycles,...

Why does this season feel so energetically charged Why does this season feel so energetically charged? Exhilarating, somewhat tinged with danger, pulling us deep into the psyche of the Underworld – the Dark Moon Season of the Year is a catalyst for rebirth. We descend, descend, descend! With Hekate, with Persephone, with ancestors, the Dark Mother, with all our soul’s longing to taste what matters and discarding the detritus.

This three-month journey may be the most impactful of the whole wheel of the year. I like to create small rituals for slow living during the Dark Moon Season.

1. Slowing down activity – less multi-tasking, more presence to each activity.

2. Cultivating slowness through singing, reading, writing, working crafts, naps.

3. Taking time for prayer, co-creating dreams with the Universe, freeing the imagination

4. Slow meals, conscious eating, slow chewing, blessing food, conversation at the table

5. Presence to thoughts, noticing the slowness, deep listening to messages from the Underworld.

6. Relishing, long, quiet evenings

One of the most frequently asked questions from my One of the most frequently asked questions from my writing clients is… am I doing it wrong? Every person who has asked me that has been doing it right. The reason is that they are following their intuition on how they function as writers. Sure, there are tips I can offer on how to stay on pace if they have a deadline, or we can dig around to truly know their process according to their personality, habits, lifestyle. We can explore their fears about writing – but there is no one formula that will work for everyone.
I’ve had writers who can only write between 6 and 9 in the evening, all other hours are dead flat in inspiration. I’ve had writers who power-speed through their manuscripts, barely taking a breath. Some can only write between 3 and 6 a.m., and almost none of them could make anything happen within a strict schedule or formula.

"Sit down every day and write something, anything", has worked for no-one in my sphere. Maybe it’s the type of client I attract, but I know that each of them had to flow with one thing… being open to the muse. When they show up, you show up. Wherever that muse is arriving from (mine is from the Pleaides), they don’t care about your schedule or time zone, they’re going to wake you up from a dead sleep and expect you to be pen in hand.

If you work with me on your book, I’ll be asking you to be you, not Hemingway. We’re going to break rules. And we’re going to have fun.

I did it. I’ve finished the proposal for my oracl I did it.

I’ve finished the proposal for my oracle deck!

My goal this year was to have it submitted by Summer Solstice, but the Universe had other plans. I had to put everything on hold to work on my surprise health diagnosis. (Oh, and welcome a new grandbaby!) There was a momentary thought of ‘oh no, the timing is ruined’ but then I remembered that there is no such thing as the wrong time – everything in its time.

As soon as I felt better I got back to it. Now I know, I know, most folks say don’t share about something that you don’t know will succeed. Wait until you have good news. It will be embarrassing if you don’t get the result you want.

But for me, the good news is that I finished what I started. That I had an idea and followed my creativity and believed in the idea my muse and I concocted.

So now, after some edits, and formatting, I’ll send it off with every bone in my body believing in it.

I work with writers on their creative projects and witness their emotions as they face the fear that their writing may ‘fail’, that it may have no value, that it’s not like what ‘real’ writer put together. And you know what? I have the same fears. And that’s OK. The fear signals that the writing matters to the writer.

I’ve been talking about this deck for about five years. The seed took its time to germinate.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés is a book I will never stop reading.  It is a source of instinctual wisdom for all women and anyone genuinely interested in understanding what the ‘wild’ means to the existence of woman/humankind.

I’m forever intrigued by the nature shared between wolves and women. If there was a visual algorithm by which we could see the historical decline of respect, support and protection of wolves, nature and women, we would be shocked at the similarity.

There is a striking connection between wolf society and human matriarchal civilization, something all future generations can learn from as we build heart-centered society. This is not the realm of unrealistic dreamers, Wolves and Women bear the archetypal codes for the way forward.

In most recent events, we witness the signing of an executive order by a man who has shown to have little or no respect for women, and who seeks support from ranchers angered by his decision to import cheap beef. His executive order directs the Secretary of Interior to determine whether delisting America’s and Mexican gray wolves from the endangered species would serve ranchers. “Wolf predation accounts for less than 1 of livestock loss”. (defenders.org) This disturbing patriarchal move is all about votes and power, and nothing to do with protecting livestock or supporting ranchers.

In Canada, since 2015, government contractors have killed more than 2,800 wolves under the premise of protecting caribou herds, downplaying that active logging and resource extraction has destroyed the habitat of the caribou.

Looking back, I can see how long it took me to und Looking back, I can see how long it took me to understand my own power in the relationship with my parents, most poignantly with my mother.

I'm not blaming my younger self for anything, also not casting blame on my parents, but I am looking at things with a clarity that cronedom has brought me.

I deliberately chose a relationship with my mom even though I knew it would be a lifelong challenge, and we both played our part.

I can see the painful parts now having streaks of gold.
