The heart is an energetic center, a guide...like a sage you meet on the mountaintop who takes your hand and brings you to the edge of a deep, dark forest and asks you to decipher what is unseen and mysterious in the landscape before you, offering no clues, but urging you to feel your way through. "You will see better with your eyes closed, anyway," the sage says. In Sanskrit, the Heart Chakra is named 'Anahata', meaning 'unhurt'. It is cradled between our Power Chakra, 'Manipura', just below it, and the Throat Chakra, 'Vishuddha', just above it. The heart is all about our connections with others. The challenge is to keep it wide open, to dream big, to nurture joy. It asks that despite feelings of rawness, we remain tender and willing to receive and offer ourselves to the world. When I need to speak with the Divine, I speak with my heart. She may have been battered by early childhood experiences, loves found and lost, the trauma of human interactions, disappointments and unpleasant circumstances, but She is the only one who knows the truth of Me. As long as I stay open, I cannot be lost. As long as I stay tender, my soul is walking with integrity and 'on purpose'. When I shut down, I lose all connection with the voice that can bring me closer to the meaningful, empowering, wonder-full path. The heart knows that it needs to feel despite all risks. That is the magic of our unfolding journey. Anahata, in the element of Air, literally moves us, emotionally and physically, through each incarnation. "I trust, I am grateful, I experience joy" is a good mantra to gift to the heart. For me, it's the unlearning that's been the greater challenge. On the days when I sit quietly and search my heart with full integrity, I see how much the wisdom I've gained is fully supported by all the unlearning of trash that my soul has absorbed. From unhealthy patterns adopted through childhood and young womanhood, to relationships that haven't honored my authenticity, to words spoken AT me, to my own insistence of holding on to wounds, I am sifting, sifting, sifting...and releasing all that does not lead to my soul expansion. Coming to completion with all those things that begged unlearning...yes, begged, because those thought and belief patterns had also become uncomfortable with my strength, I stand a little more integrated into my fearless wildness. A personal example, is letting go of a belief that I could not show up for myself in the world as significantly as someone younger, prettier, savvier, blah, blah, blah. What a load of bullshit, Wild Ones, and yet, so difficult for me to unlearn. Through listening to my Inner Wise Woman, I have come to appreciate my own personal magic.
