Reading books saved my life, literally and metapho Reading books saved my life, literally and metaphorically.

Through books, I learned that other people around the world were living the challenges I was facing as a child. That made me feel less alone. I also learned that there was a possibility to have a different life, one of beauty and love and safety. That helped me to have hope for the future when as an adult I could organize my own existence. I was reading far above my age group once I learned to speak and read in English, so the books I accessed were not only written for children, but also for adults. They fueled my imagination which became the language of my soul – I could create worlds that served as surrogate places for my inner self to live until I had agency. I could cite hundreds of books that taught me about the world, humanity and courage to keep on.

One book that stands out for me is ‘The Yearling’. Through its pages I could clearly see myself; my love for everything in the natural world, the deep challenges of life and how trauma can affect the one person who should be our strongest ally – our mother. Although I couldn’t have articulated at the time how this book was pivotal to my evolving psyche and how it kept me earthside, I knew that books were my best mentors. Someone had taken the time to write a book, taken a chance on being published, had thrown their inner self onto blank pages, and touched my life with profound effect.

So write your book, it really is that important.

Transforming the Mother Wound, The Dark Pool Trilogy, Love.Lust. Lost. Tessa and the Faeries… plus close to 400 published articles, all came from reading something someone somewhere wrote, hoping somebody would one day read it.

There's fine print? That's all I've got for you There's fine print?

That's all I've got for you fine folk today.
Been up since 4 a.m. because my monkey mind tricks were apparently on vacay.

You know the one where you recite a bunch of words all un-related to each other such as confuscious, Alabama, surrender, nail, ribbon, alabaster... yeah, that didn't work.

Happy writing folks! That's what I did at 4 a.m., wrote a bunch of rubbish in my journal that makes absolutely no sense now, except that I want to go to Kauai.

But there's probably fine print about that too.

It may sound strange to be grateful for the origin It may sound strange to be grateful for the original wound but it has been the foundation of everything I have learned about myself and where I have choice.
This teaching benefited not only my relationship with my mother (who is passed on but we'll ways be in relationship), yet has extended to many of my relationships, most notably the one with myself.
The most poignant choice I had made was to be responsible for my own life, for how I felt, how I responded to challenges, and how I loved and mothered myself.

Wow, those were discerning steps!
Hiding behind 'no choice' hurt me. It wasn't easy to change habits, but it did get easier the more I practiced.

I wrote down what worked for me. Transforming the Mother Wound. Sacred Practices for Healing Your Inner Wise Woman through Ritual and Grounded Spirituality. Available everywhere.

Sending you love. 💞

Today was the day. I procrastinated by making app Today was the day.
I procrastinated by making apple sauce, granola, pulling the last of the tomatoes in the garden, snacking, pacing, making tea, praying to my ancestors, lighting incense, figuring out a last minute snag as to why it wasn't sending... oy!

Even though I've been working on this proposal for several months, crossed every t, and dotted every i, there is so much hope with a proposal that one can't help feeling overwhelmed with emotions.

Where is the fainting couch? Chocolate? A long walk perhaps to move the energy?

There is nothing left to do but wait to hear back.

My neurodivergent writer clients have held up a re My neurodivergent writer clients have held up a revealing mirror to my own writing habits. They’ve come in full to the brim with ideas, dreaming of book two while we create book one, at once writing several literary categories; fictional and factual prose, poetry, blogs on a variety of topics dripping from their fingertips. And always with the same question… can I be a successful author if I don’t stick to one category?

And while we can get into a lengthy discussion about what success means to them, we always arrive at the same conclusion – they have a visceral desire for honoring creativity as it shows up. The misery would be not putting the thing to paper.

I used to think there was something wrong with me, because I have never been able to commit to one genre, one topic. Before I finish one project, I’m already writing an outline for the next. I have watched writer friends take off in a specific direction, become experts known for their style and subject. Have I indulged myself too much? What to do with the words that keep knocking at the door?

Write what is present. Be friends with your creativity and your personal writing path. A healthy writing practice is one that honors its truth. There are ways of organizing several writing projects and flowing between them if need be. The authors who have written many books all have one thing in common – they don’t say no to the flow, they trust their genius, and so can you!

Welcome October! You bring vibrant color, earthy scents under our feet, cosy evenings, sweaters, and Samhain. How can we not find joy in your warmth and exuberance?
