The curse of the Wise Woman was a double edged swo

The curse of the Wise Woman was a double edged sword. At once, Wise Women were called upon to bring their knowledge to heal the sick, and also feared... for how could they know more than the physician?

Their relationship with plants was a mystery. It was a risk to not know a cure and to know it.

Women were the first physicians, with their understanding of roots, stems, flowers, potions, and the power of their hands placed upon the ill. Their science was the intimate knowledge of what was at hand, and they learned it by dedication to their healing rites and to their community.

Wise Women who understood their connection to the cosmos (moon, seasons, weather), who were the midwives, healers and oracles were a threat to church and government. Women who could provide healing when physicians could not, were said to be married to the Devil, for the Devil knew every plant and its purpose.

The moon reflects,our emotions, guides us through internal seasons and provides a map of the natural cycles women traverse.

A month is a mini-year, a capsule of something larger, an awakening, a growth, a realization and a letting go.

It is light and shadow, Eros and Thanatos, life and death, as we dream the phases.

Last Quarter Moon takes us deep into the body, emotions and psyche.

Here we go, to meet the Crone, and to once again, compost, release, die unto ourselves so we may be reborn at New Moon.

Ive been searching for 'mother' since my own passe

Ive been searching for 'mother' since my own passed when I was a five year old child in Poland.

Almost every mother figure I was presented with in life came with an unwelcome challenge.

The one Mother who I have always been able to trust is the presence, energy and physical manifestation of the Great Mother.

She has been like the Coyote, a name given to me during a most difficult period of my life, a shapeshifter, sometimes the actual animal crossing my path, sometimes a tree, or howling wind, a river or a child of mine.

I wrote this book because 'mother' has been the longest thread in the tapestry of my life. It's gentle and unassuming, but it brings the message that cleared the path for me and many others.

I was wrong about where the term Wise Woman came from. Information I read, created an emotional tie to destigmatize or reclaim the word ‘witch’, but it wasn’t technically the root of the term.

This was really appealing when I was new on my path. Now, I want clarity, not only for my own walk, but for what I teach others.

Things went terribly wrong when the ‘cunning woman’, or one who held special knowledge and whose connection with natural forces worked for the good, was cast into an alternative role, that of the spell-caster, by misogynistic and superstitious Medieval powers.

While the role of the Wise Woman in the community did go underground for safety’s sake, it wasn’t extinguished. Woman’s connection to the occult (hidden knowledge) is still our super-power. There is great need for our intuition, our connection to healing with plants, food and love, for the spells we cast with words and actions.

I guide women on their Wise Woman Path, and because their trust is given, I am committed to continually learn and be clear about what that is.
